Five Years and Rising: A Celebration of Stand UP KC
Recently Stand Up KC celebrated it's five year anniversary. Stand Up KC is a part of the national Fight for Fifteen movement working to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and for union rights. Stand Up KC is made up of low wage workers in my occupations. In this celebration they celebrated workers, organizers, and allies in the movement. Of course there was also music. The event featured the music of The Country Duo, Fred Wickham and the Hadacol Caravan, and The Grisly Hand.
The Country Duo started off the night's music with classic country. Kasey's sweet voice feels like you're listening to Patsy Cline's sister. You can see their friendship and chemistry when they play. Their joy on stage invites you in; you can't help but smile as Kasey's smile lit up Knuckleheads. Between Kasey's voice and Marco on the pedal steel their music is sure to steal your heart.
Fred Wickham and Hadacol Caravan picked up speed with their set. Seeing Fred play this show was special for this event. Fred is not only a talented musician in this band, he is also one of the lawyers that helps support the work of Stand Up KC. It was a full celebration on the this night; they had so much energy and brought Kasey back up on stage and Fred's brother Greg also joined in on a few songs.
To close out the night The Grisly Hand added some rock 'n' roll to the night. By this time the crowd had worked their way out of their seats to the dance floor. The Grisly Hand has tight harmonies infused with rock, country, and folk. What a great end to an amazing night!
