Plaza Lighting Ceremony
November 23, 2017 at the Plaza
One of Kansas City's great Thanksgiving traditions is the Plaza Lighting Ceremony where about 100,000 join together to watch the beautiful lights get turned on. It's a night of warmth amidst the cold temperature, family and friends, fireworks, music, and of course the lights. This year the music hi-lights were home town favorites Casi Joy (You may have seen Casi on The Voice. Her home town is Smithville, MO, but she now resides in Nashville, TN.), Isaac Cates & Ordained, KCP&: Plaza Lights singers and dancers, and the Elders. After the switch was flipped and fireworks went off the Elders put on a full concert. The crowd was jovial. The Elders lit up the stage with their performance. One of the joys of live music is the sense of community created and the Elders have a true gift in creating community at their shows. During one of their songs, the crowd was arm in arm swaying to the music. On a day we give thanks, it's hard to not give thanks for the music we have in this city and they way this celebration brought together so many people who would never interact on a regular day.
Although the official release show was two days later, The Elders also were celebrating the online release of their new album, True. If you haven't listened yet, you can find it on Spotify, Amazon, and iTunes. This great album made I Love KC Music's albums not to miss from 2017.
