Sofar Sounds: Another Maxwell/NuBlvckCity

Another special nigh of Sofar Sounds in the books with this show at Hammerpress. Hammerpress, located at 500 Southwest Blvd is letterpress and design studio located in the Crossroads Arts District. What a beautiful space. The lineup for the night was Another Maxwell, Nublvkcity, and The Brummies.

Another Maxwell kicked it off with some alternative hiphop. Recorded beats backed Another Maxwell's sweet voice. The audience tuned into her chill vibes.

Nublvkcity turned up the energy a bit for their set. NuBlvckCity is a collective of musicians who function as a band. Kartez (sounds, keyboard, vocals), Love, Mae C. (vocals), They Call Me Sauce (sounds, vocals), and VP3 (saxophone, vocals). Love, Mae C's voice is one of soul and power, she pulled the audience in with it's beauty! They Call Me Sauce and Kartez are a masters with words and they know how to mix those beats with their words. Doubling up on the soul in the mix is VP3 one the sax. This group was on Kimmy's need to see bands list and they were great!

The Brummies were the final band for the night; they were also a bit of a genre twist from the last two hip hop bands. The Brummies were there to rock and they turned up the energy. The music was going enough that it rocked the cards and shelves right off the wall. It was a fun to see this Pinson, Alabama band show up at a Sofar Sounds show. I first heard them at Middle of the Map and fell in love with their music. There album Eternal Reach was actually one of I Love KC Music's favorite out of town albums of 2018. The Brummies found the perfect amount of talking and playing. They told some stories about their songs as well as playing. What a great set!
