The Layton Hollow Gals played an intimate show in a warm and cozy house as part of the Mama Ra Haus Concert Series on December 16, 2017. On this special night we got to hear music from the Johnny Mullins Collection. Johnny Mullins was a grammy nominated songwriter and elementary school janitor. He wrote music for Loretta Lynn and Emmylou Harris along with many others. After Johnny passed away his daughter discovered a large collection of unreleased music and has been on a mission to share it. The Layton Hollow Gals (a nod to the birthplace of Johnny Mullins) is comprised of Melinda “Moon” Mullins, Emily Higgins and Betsey Beymer. It was a night of sweet three-part harmony arrangements of songs from The Johnny Mullins Collection. While some of the songs felt more serious others brought laughter. One of my favorite moments was when Lucy, the dog, sang along to the song "Ride in the Country."
Betsey "driving" along to the song "Ride in the Country."
Lucy singing along to "Ride in the Country."
