HearQueer Issue 002 Showcase

HearQueer is an online and print publication amplifying queer musicians. HearQueer launched in June 2017. Issue 002 was released on November 10, 2017 with musical performances from Yanna and The Black Creatures.

Don't be deceived, Yanna might be small in stature, but she's mighty. Yanna, AKA Supa Flowa is a force of energy and positivity on stage and in her music. This was one of the best performances I was this year. Early in her set she told the audience, I'm just going to dance for a song, I don't feel like we've connected yet. Let's get present with each other. It was incredible. Duncan put on some beats and you could feel a shift in the room. As Yanna and the crowd danced they got really in the moment. Yanna only started preforming in 2017, but with Duncan's catchy beats and Yanna's positive lyrics this is a band to get to know. This Supa Flowa definitely has supa powas. Yanna just released a music video, check it out.

The Black Creatures followed Yanna's performance. The Black Creatures are a darkpop hip hop duo. Jade has a soulful, silky voice paired with Xavier's heavy, experimental, intergalactic beats. Their music explores issues of social justice and everyday life. The beauty in Jade's voice soothes the listener as she sings about difficult topics. Make sure to check out their album See No Evil that just released on December 6, 2017; it's superb.
